High Summer Water Pressure & PRV Failures
Charlotte Water maintains high main line pressure to navigate the rolling hills of the Piedmont. During hot summer months, municipal water usage spikes due to irrigation and pool filling, causing pressure fluctuations. If your home's Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) is over five years old, it can fail silently. Test your pressure at an outdoor hose bib using a cheap screw-on gauge; anything over 80 PSI will damage your washing machine hoses, toilet valves, and water heater. Replace a failing PRV immediately to protect your fixtures.
