Subterranean Termite Swarms and Foundation Mud Tubes
Spring and early summer in North Carolina are prime times for eastern subterranean termite swarms. These destructive pests emerge on warm, rainy days to find new nesting sites. Look closely at your foundation walls for pencil-thin mud tubes, which termites build to travel safely from the soil to your home's wood framing. Keep firewood, mulch, and scrap lumber at least twenty feet away from your home to avoid drawing them toward your foundation.
