Subterranean Termite Swarms in Spring
Eastern subterranean termites are highly active in Wilmington as the soil warms in spring. They swarm on warm, humid days after rain, looking to establish new colonies. Keep a sharp eye out for discarded wings near windowsills and mud tubes climbing up your foundation walls. To deter them, keep mulch, firewood, and soil at least six inches below your home's siding. Fix any plumbing leaks or crawlspace dampness immediately, as these pests require constant moisture to survive and will quickly target damp structural wood.
